Residency Training

The Department of Neurosciences strives for excellence as we prepare neurologists for careers in academic medicine, clinical practice or research.

The high caliber of our research and graduate programs promotes a broad-based residency experience in neurology.

  • The UCSD Neurosciences research program is the pre-eminent program of its kind in the country.
  • Our research program ranks first out of 90 competitors in overall NIH grant funding.
  • The neurosciences graduate program is one of the nation's most highly respected.

Neurosciences residents get exposure to nationally known clinicians and researchers in such fields as Alzheimer’s disease, neurovascular disorders, HIV neurology, movement disorders, stroke, and many others. See the Outpatient Experience page for more details.
