Additionally a $500 Education Stipend and a $4,900 Housing Stipend are provided yearly from Graduate Medical Education
Two medical plan options (one a fee-for-service PPO indemnity plan, the other an HMO), a dental plan, and a vision plan are available at no cost to housestaff and their dependents as employment benefits.
We also offer a no cost life insurance plan with a $50,000/100,000 benefit, additional accidental death and dismemberment coverage of up to $80,000, and long-term disability insurance. The University provides malpractice insurance.
Meal tickets to cover on-call eating expenses as well as lab coats and laundering services are provided at the 2 major medical centers. Residents also have access to extensive recreational programs and facilities available to UCSD students, including the large indoor and outdoor swimming pools and the Mission Bay Aquatics Center.
Each resident has an educational fund of $800 per year ($500 from Graduate Medical Education as noted above and $300 from the Department of Neurosciences) that may be used for books, journals, professional dues, professional instruments, travel and meetings.
Each resident may attend 1 outside neurology course, conference or meeting for up to 5 days each year during their scheduled work time with the permission of the program director. The resident must arrange for appropriate coverage of their clinical duties during this time.
Graduate Medical Education offers reimbursements for professional fees including Initial License, License Renewal and Travel Reimbursement.
