Synapses in the brain are responsible for who we are and how we perceive the world around us. Our lab explores the fundamental features shaping the strength of synaptic transmission in the brain. Our recent work focuses on synaptic transmission in the mammalian olfactory system. We use electrophysiological and optical recording techniques to study neurons in brain slices and in vivo. Ultimately, we hope to reveal how brain synapses process and encode sensory information.
