Leena Kansal joined the Department of Neurosciences as an assistant clinical professor in 2010. She earned her MD from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA in 2005 and went on to finish an internship in Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Pennsylvania in 2006. While at Jefferson Medical College, she received the Arthur Krieger Memorial Prize in Neurology.
In 2009, she completed a neurology residency at UCSD, followed by an epilepsy fellowship which she completed in 2010. At UCSD she received the Golden Neuron resident of the year award in 2009 and was chief resident from 2008-2009.
As part of the UCSD Epilepsy Center, she has worked with a group of epileptologists to treat patients with the most challenging cases of epilepsy. To treat drug-resistant cases, she is working to find methods to identify patients with epileptogenic zones within the brain that are receptive to surgery.
