Dr. Mellon holds a joint appointment with the Department of Reproductive Medicine. Her primary contributions to Neurosciences are in the teaching and service realms. She has been a mainstay of the Molecular and Cellular Neurobiology course for more than a decade.

Teaching dedication and commitment to graduate education are evident in a career record that includes training of doctoral students from the Biology, Neurosciences, and Biomedical Sciences programs. Several of these students have held prestigious fellowships such as the Howard Hughes and Markey Fellowships. Students from four graduate programs have rotated through the Mellon laboratory.

Dr. Mellon maintains an exemplary record of university service. She has chaired ad hoc committees for faculty promotions, served as Chair of the Graduate Education Programs Committee, and is a member of both the Committee on Educational Policy and the Education Council in the School of Medicine.
