LATE-Discovery and Trial Ready Cohort for Limbic Predominant Age Related TDP-43 Encephalopathy (TRC LATE)

Discovery and Trial Ready Cohort for Limbic Predominant Age Related TDP-43 Encephalopathy (TRC LATE)

Study Description

The goal of this multicenter research study is to better understand Limbic Predominant Age Related TDP-43 Encephalopathy (LATE). Clinically, LATE resembles Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) in that it causes a progressive amnestic syndrome; however, its pathophysiology is distinct and poorly understood.

Our aims are to:

  1. Define and validate novel biomarkers that would aid in the early detection and diagnosis of LATE
  2. Track and differentiate disease progression of LATE from AD
  3. Learn about the attitudes and inclination of individuals to participate in clinical trials for LATE.

We plan to evaluate participants enrolled in the UCSD Shiley-Marcos ADRC Cognitive Aging Longitudinal Study with additional imaging and assessment procedures. By doing this, we hope to validate and further refine the clinical criteria of LATE by assessing the diagnostic utility of neuroimaging and neuropsychological biomarkers in this condition.
