    Jeffrey Gertsch, M.D.

    Dr. Gertsch is a clinical neurologist with special expertise in clinical neurophysiology. He is the Medical Director of  Interventional Neurophysiology Service at the University of California (UC) San Diego Medical Centers, where he maintains an active clinical practice, performs research in neurophysiology, and mentors trainees in surgical neurophysiology. Dr. Gertsch grew up in San Diego, where he received his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology at UC San Diego. He obtained his MD degree at the University of Hawaii prior to specializing in clinical neurology at Stanford University. Dr. Gertsch completed a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at UC Los Angeles before joining as faculty in the Department of Neurosciences at UC San Diego in 2008.

  • Matthew Shtrahman, M.D., Ph.D.

    Matthew Shtrahman, M.D., Ph.D.

    Dr. Shtrahman is a clinical neurologist and specializes in surgical neurophysiology. Dr. Shtrahman received his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from the University of Michigan. He returned to his hometown to obtain his MD and PhD degrees at the University of Pittsburgh, where he did his thesis work with Dr. Xiao-lun Wu in the Department of Physics. He completed his residency training and clinical Neurophysiology fellowship in the Department of Neurology at UCLA, He went on to do his postdoctoral training in the labs of Drs. Tom Otis at UCLA and Fred Gage at the Salk Institute before joining faculty of the Department of Neurosciences at UCSD in 2016. See his lab website
